Yarns and Style: Create your autumn with ideas from Andrea and Giovanni.
Welcome Autumn: The best yarns for your seasonal creations.
Autumn has finally arrived, bringing with it the perfect season to indulge in the passions of crochet and knitting! Make yourself comfortable, prepare a steaming herbal tea and relax with us as we explore the perfect yarns for your autumn creations. Personally, I’ve already stocked up on teas to face the colder days, filled my dispensers with my seasonal ally, cinnamon, and put away all my summer clothes to make room for autumn warmth.
To celebrate the arrival of autumn, I’ve invited two industry experts to my creative corner: Giovanni Mustone, CEO and Manager of Tessiland, and Andrea, expert in fashion accessories and logistics. They will guide us in choosing the most suitable textile fibers to create unique garments and accessories for October 2024. We're not talking about nutritionists, but about the real textile fibers that will make a difference in your projects!
Let's discover the highlights of our interview and the essential tips for selecting the right yarns and welcoming the autumn season with style and creativity. Whether you're an expert or a beginner, this article is for you. Don’t miss the opportunity to get inspired and prepare yourself for a warm and beautiful autumn!
Read the full article and start creating with the ideal autumn yarns right away!
''WHAT ARE THE BEST FIBERS TO FACE THE FIRST CHILL OF OCTOBER?''
Giovanni: ''Autumn makes me think of one word: TAPE. Tapes are often underestimated, but for this autumn I would recommend yarns like MOBY, which is made up of 15% superfine alpaca, 15% merino wool, and 70% cotton. This 100% natural blown yarn is a masterpiece of design and functionality, crafted to meet the most demanding needs of knitting and crochet enthusiasts.''
Andrea:''For me, autumn means wool, but not alone, a wool blend, paired for example with acrylic or cotton. We've just said goodbye to summer and welcomed a cooler season, so in my mind, I imagine a fiber that starts to make me feel cozy, a fiber hug. In this case, I would recommend the BARNES yarn, made up of 30% wool and 70% acrylic. Watch out for the explosion of colors that will enhance the autumn season.''

''WOULD YOU RECOMMEND COTTON OR WARM COTTON YARNS FOR AUTUMN?''
Giovanni:''Why not step out of the box and go for the LENNON yarn? It’s a yarn that embodies luxury, perfect for accompanying us in every season, and it's part of the premium range, coming in 250g spools for approximately 600 meters.''
Andrea: ''Warm cotton all the way, I would recommend, for example, the DONNY yarn, which is perfect for making blankets and accessories for the little ones, but also for autumn or spring clothing, periods when the cool air greets or bids us farewell.''

''IN TERMS OF COLORS, WHICH SHADES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND OR THINK ARE TRENDING RIGHT NOW?''
Giovanni:''Mother Nature gives us all the shades to wear during this period, just think of Halloween, so orange, copper, terracotta, clay, dark colors like brown, chestnut, caramel, and black.''
Andrea: ''The color for this autumn, if we talk about trends, is BURGUNDY, the darker it is, the more glamorous the result. Then, let's think of something seasonal like copper, mustard, but also petrol blue or a deep blue as standout colors.''

''FOR THOSE WHO ARE ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS, WHAT SUSTAINABLE OR ECO-FRIENDLY YARN OPTIONS DO WE HAVE?''
Giovanni: ''Ecodonny, the sustainable choice perfect for those who can’t tolerate wool and are looking for a yarn slightly thicker than regular cotton. This yarn is also a good option for those who love warm cotton.''
Andrea: ''Tencel, it’s a revolutionary fiber, known as lyocell. Primarily made from the wood pulp of trees like eucalyptus and beech, Tencel is praised for its ecological and sustainable properties.''

''IN YOUR OPINION, ARE THERE LESSER-KNOWN OR LESSER-USED YARNS THAT DESERVE MORE ATTENTION DURING THIS PERIOD?''
Giovanni: ''I can't list them all, but there are many, for example, Metallica is one of them. We’re talking about a yarn for making clothing and accessories, both crochet and knitted. It achieves its best results with airy stitches that are not overly complicated thanks to the shades that create an innovative and modern texture. However, its true peculiarity lies in the twist of pure virgin wool with a shiny acrylic microfiber that, once printed, gives a truly exclusive effect: a brightness that looks like lurex but is not, offering all the advantages of comfort and fiber uniformity.''
Andrea: ''I’ll recommend three yarns, one of which is suitable even for beginners in crochet or knitting, and I’m talking about Taylor. Its thickness makes this yarn flow smoothly throughout the project, delivering great satisfaction upon completion. It’s a style statement thanks to its unique twisted construction, adding a distinctive character to any creation. Whether you want to make scarves, ponchos, hats, or leg warmers, Taylor will be your perfect ally. And don’t forget to use it for clothing too, adding a unique touch to each piece.''
My second suggestion is Gaga, it’s an explosion of colors in a high-quality yarn. Made from 100% top acrylic, this yarn promises not only aesthetic beauty but also durability and longevity.
Finally, I recommend Enya, which boasts anti-pilling properties, ensuring the prevention of those annoying little knots on the fabric surface. This makes it ideal not only for adults but also for children and infants, especially those who suffer from allergies.''

''ABOUT BEGINNERS, ANY THOUGHTS FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO DIVE INTO THIS WONDERFUL WORLD AROUND US? WHAT YARN WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR BEGINNERS IN CROCHET OR KNITTING, AND WHAT WOULD YOU ADVISE AGAINST?''
Giovanni: ''Absolutely NO to roving yarns, as beginners tend to make more mistakes, and you’ll often have to undo your creation. Roving yarn not only tangles but can also get damaged in the process, so save those for more advanced levels. Yes to thick yarns made up of a few strands, like the Swollen yarn. For bags, I would recommend a tape yarn, and you might be surprised, but I’d suggest the Tagliatella, which is smooth and perfect for making bags, clutches, accessories, rugs, and many other creations, including "sculptures". Yes, it has a flat appearance, but it's tubular, so you can thread wire or plastic tubing inside to create true "constructions" out of yarn.''
Andrea: ''In my view, for beginners, I would recommend a highly twisted yarn, not fuzzy, that slides quickly and easily on the crochet hook. Oh, try working with Lycra, then tell us what you think.''
WEB IDEAS
''WHAT YARN SHOULD BE USED TO ENHANCE THE BEAUTY OF A TWISTED STITCH?''
Giovanni: ''Here, I have to recommend fine, solid-colored yarns, because a variegated texture might hide the beauty of the stitch. So, consider something like Chuck or Bravissimo, both are reliable for these kinds of projects.''
Andrea: ''Ok, you need something fine and solid-colored, and the Bravissimo is definitely a go-to. For the early cold days, if you want to create a garment with a special stitch, try the Patty yarn.''

''IS THERE A MUST-HAVE THIS SEASON FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO MAKE ACCESSORIES LIKE SCARVES AND HATS?''
Giovanni: ''Can I repeat myself? I think we have a great product here, the best among the options: Justin baby.''
Andrea: ''I want to recommend Moby, for its structural beauty and quality, and it's also super easy to work with.''
I would like to thank Andrea and Giovanni for their precious time, as for me, I’ve added some ideas from our creatives or taken from the web. We hope we’ve been helpful and have assisted you in choosing your autumn projects.
Don’t forget to post your creations in our Facebook group: you can find it HERE.
Have a great weekend.
