Light cake: a few steps to make the POPPY CAKE.
A light and creative cake: the perfect crochet dessert!
Have you ever thought about making a 100% light cake? No, we're not talking about a low-calorie recipe, but an original, creative, and sugar-free idea: a cake made entirely with crochet!
The idea comes from the desire to surprise someone we love with a special gesture, without necessarily spending hours in the kitchen or making last-minute pastry shop runs. Who hasn't wanted to make a surprise at midnight for a birthday but found themselves out of time to prepare?
Here is the perfect solution: a crochet cake, a unique, handmade, and reusable gift to wish a sweet HAPPY BIRTHDAY to someone dear to us.
The Inspiration
It all started with a colleague's birthday: I wanted to surprise him at work with something special, but something original and different from the usual. Searching online, I found several inspirations, but I decided to challenge myself without following a tutorial, using only the materials available in our shop.
I created two versions of this crochet cake and can't wait to make more in different color and size variations. I recommend stocking up on circular mesh bases, essential for this technique, available in our shop. The process is really simple: you use a mesh as a base, add stuffing in the center, and close it with another mesh on the surface, just like a real layered cake!
Choosing Colors: Creativity and Deliciousness
Let your imagination guide you in choosing colors and think about your favorite flavors! I created two versions:
- Pink cake: inspired by lemon cream, white chocolate, and pistachio.
- White and green cake: with a delicious chantilly cream and wild strawberries.
For the base, I used BARRY yarn, perfect because it is soft and voluminous, just like whipped cream, and works up quickly. The decorative details were made with a puff or popcorn stitch, which perfectly replaces piping bag decorations! For these details, I chose thinner yarns than Barry, such as Chuck, Bravissimo50, Iggy, and Justin Baby.
