Mother’s Day: celebrate the most important person in your life.
Mother's Day is the perfect time to slow down, remember, and give thanks. Because every mom is unique and deserves a day full of attention, sweetness, and heartfelt gestures. Because every mom is unique and deserves a day full of attention, sweetness, and heartfelt gestures.
I wondered what to create, but I also told myself that a single project wouldn’t be enough for someone so important, someone who, from day zero, takes us by the hand and walks beside us on this magical journey called life. I know very well that not everyone in the world experiences the role of MOM in the same way:
some lost her as a child, some never knew her, some are disappointed because they didn’t have the courage to stay close, some wish they could be near her but, for one reason or another, cannot. And then there’s me, living in total harmony with my mom.
When I think of something, I already know she’s thinking about it too. I would give my life for the kind of mom I hope to be one day, if I ever have children.
So, today I want to dedicate this article to them—moms. And to you, their children.
And what if a touch of creativity made this occasion even more special?
Discover with us handmade ideas, DIY projects, table decorations, an easy yet impressive recipe, and thoughtful greetings to celebrate your mom in an authentic, beautiful... and handmade way.
Handmade ideas for a day together.
Breakfast for mom: a wake-up made with love.
If there’s a simple yet powerful gesture, it’s preparing breakfast for your mom. You don’t need anything fancy—just a well-arranged tray, a cup that feels like home, and a kind thought. I thought I’d share an idea by Egle Breme about placemats or plate mats:
Egle made her project using Iggy, but I recommend trying it with Donny Pattern for a different vibe to your breakfast:
You can decorate the breakfast with small handmade details:
- a crocheted coaster in her favorite colors
- a napkin with a blanket stitch border
- a small yarn flower placed between the cup and spoon
What to serve? A fresh juice, a fragrant tea or her favorite coffee, some homemade cookies or a slice of “Sweet Hug” Cake (you’ll find the recipe in the following paragraphs!).
It’s a simple gesture, but one that will stay in her heart.
Things to do together on Mother’s Day
Beyond a handmade gift or a special breakfast, the most precious thing we can give is our time. Mother’s Day is the perfect occasion to do something together, rediscovering the joy of company, conversation, and shared little pleasures.
Here are some simple but meaningful ideas:
- A walk in her favorite places.
Take her somewhere she loves, maybe a corner of the city she hasn’t visited in a while—or even better, a place she’s always wanted to go but never had the chance. Walking side by side is a wonderful way to slow down and have a real conversation.
- A creative afternoon for two.
Bring out the yarn, crochet hooks, needles, and bead boxes. Brew some tea and start a small project together. Even just teaching her a new stitch—or learning one from her—can become an unforgettable memory.
- Take photos, create memories.
Snap some photos together, candid or posed, with your creations or simply during the walk. Print them, frame them, or use them to fill a small creative journal.
- You could also make a handmade photo frame with yarn and cardboard to give her on the same day, placing one of your pictures inside.
You could use colorful yarns to match her home decor style.

How to decorate the table for Mother’s Day lunch.
To turn lunch into an unforgettable moment, it really doesn’t take much: pay attention to the details, mix pastel colors, and add handmade touches.
Easy decoration ideas:
- Crocheted place cards: small hearts, little flowers, or tiny green leaves. Just a few meters of cotton and a 3 mm hook are enough.
- Soft centerpiece: a strip made with a mesh stitch, in dusty pink, lilac, or ecru tones.
- Handmade napkin rings: create small rings using decorative yarn like Lumina, with a touch of beads or sequins.
- Extra tip: add a small bouquet of fresh or handmade flowers for a romantic touch.

A simple, wholesome recipe that smells like home. Just like mom’s hug.
