BARRY Tessiland with STEAM TREATMENT
A CLASSIC IN EVOLUTION!
A classic that dresses up again. Barry in the new format and with a steam treatment to revive and plump the fiber. For those who do not settle for combining the usual Tessiland quality with the tactile pleasure of those who will wear it!
Suitable for any clothing item, it is particularly suitable for accessories, ponchos, scarves, shawls, blankets... but we have seen the versatility of this spectacular Made in Italy product that envies all of Europe!
The list also includes bags, and we have even seen favors made out of it!
Barry... 5 letters but infinite possibilities!
WHAT IS STEAM TREATMENT AND WHY IS IT DONE?
The steam treatment involves passing the yarn with a natural fiber content through special chambers where it undergoes a steam treatment that tends to plump and relax the fiber.
With the vaporization treatment, the yarn becomes softer and more stable, plumps up, and the fiber "explodes" (as they say in jargon).
In the specific case of Barry, a double-cycle steam treatment at 70°C is used to get the most out of this product.
It should be considered that there may be a possible weight oscillation of 3 to 5% more or less during the settling time of the skein, which may cause a slight difference in the final weight.
WHAT DOES BARRY, A "STOPPINO" WOOL BLEND MEAN?
The yarn with a worsted twist is typically a very soft and easy to work with yarn. Its very light fibers undergo a slight twist that makes it very airy, but it is also easy to find oneself facing the "fraying" of these fibers if the yarn is twisted in the opposite direction to that made during the preparation phase.
In case this situation occurs, it will be sufficient to understand the twist direction and always work it in a way that does not go "controversial". The cases in which one can go controversial are the position of the yarn "feeding" or, for example, if one were left-handed or in particular cases of processing.
The use of Barry is absolutely recommended with knitting needles both in-line and circular, although it is now widely used with crochet where however the "controversial" movement is less rare due to the constant repetition of movements. For this reason, before starting your project, it is advisable to check the direction of twist of the yarn so as not to end up with loose fibers.
Differences in thickness between one color and another
It is normal and possible for worsted yarns that undergo vaporization treatments to appear of different thicknesses between one color and another. This is caused by a vaporization process that over time can slightly lose its effect on the yarn and by the particular "free fiber" structure of Barry. Therefore: "Is it not possible to work with 2 colors of Barry together?" BUT OF COURSE YOU CAN! This difference is not a difference in specific weight or meterage or yarn count but is only related to the ability of that particular color batch to retain moisture. With the caution of working with the same tension with 2 apparently different colors, they will perfectly match after the first wash! Try it to believe it!
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF BARRY? WASHING AND MAINTENANCE
Like all handmade items, even the washing of a garment made with yarn like Barry needs the same love with which we made it.
Wash it by hand in water at 30°, with a neutral soap suitable for wool, do not hang it but let it dry flat and away from sources of heat (perhaps after blotting it with a towel) are the basic rules that we must follow if we do not want to ruin garments to which we have dedicated hours of our time.
The fibers, both natural and vegetable, that are present in our yarns are to be considered "alive" and for this reason they must be treated with care to obtain the best result in terms of wear and maintenance.
The making of a handmade garment should also be considered. For example, if we have made a particularly "airy" garment, we will naturally have more difficulty keeping it "in shape" compared to a garment worked with a tight hand that not only will remain in the initial proportions, but will also lose less fuzz (that shorter part of the fiber that unravels from the twisted fiber set) and will remain beautiful over time.
DO I HAVE TO WASH THE GARMENTS I MAKE BY HAND?
Modern washing machines now all have delicate programs and even commercial detergents have features that
increasingly often make washing in the washing machine possible with a certain serenity.
However, we recommend dedicating time to our creations not only during the creation phase, but also during the care of our garment in order to create an even closer emotional bond, worthy of the great love with which it was created!
