Tatting Technique Insights and Curiosities
Needle tatting is a little-known technique and thus considered somewhat outdated. This is why when looking for content, people search for: grandma's tatting patterns or easy needle tatting patterns. But perhaps few of you know that tatting is a much more widespread technique than you might think. Just search on YouTube for: crochet tatting, tatting earrings, tatting blanket to be surprised by the content that can appear.
Where does the name 'tatting' come from?
Defined in English as “tatting”, which is typical of dense talking, it was easy to Italianize the term into chiacchierino, which is nothing more than a technique of knots mostly made with particular needles alternating knots from one direction to the other (see video at the bottom of the page).
But what thread is used for tatting?
To tell the truth, there are no limits or prescriptions for the tatting technique, but it goes without saying that for making something like tatting earrings, one would use a shiny and well-twisted yarn, and the best-suited thread is undoubtedly Scotland thread number 5.
It’s also a very simple technique once the system is understood, and it's easy to find dozens and dozens of free tatting patterns even on social networks like Pinterest, choose the right color and indulge in tatting earrings, tatting jewelry, and tatting decorations.
Particularly appreciated are the tatting bijoux where with some jewelry accessories you can create entire and original collections of tatting costume jewelry.
