Jute: a yarn to open new horizons

Bags, baskets, belts, carpets and furnishing accessories could now have that "NATURAL" look!

Jute is a natural textile fiber obtained from plants of the genus Corchorus, included in the Malvaceae family. As for flax and hemp, the textile material for production is obtained from the stem of the plant that can reach 4 meters.

Jute is highly hygroscopic, white, yellowish or brown. The fibers are rough and tenacious but Juta Tessiland undergoes a delicate softening treatment that allows a high workability without losing its characteristic image. The jute can be crocheted alone or mixed with other yarns, to make various objects, such as bags, belts, hats or carpets.

The Jute comes from the lime tree fiber or from the bark of the stem of the plants, and Tessiland has selected producers who guarantee an eco-sustainable fiber exploitation and not from wild forests, but from crops set in a proper ecosystem. Even the dye, to color the raw material, is very low impact.

The jute color with no dye is the color that we call NATURAL in the color chart.

ATTENTION: Due to the particular nature of the product, the release of impurities during processing and colour losses should be considered normal. These characteristics settle after the first washing. It’s necessary to keep this detail in mind in case you match very contrasting colors.

How to do maintenance:

Being a natural material, the possibility of maintenance is provided (also because its porosity promotes the retention of moisture causing its characteristic smell), to be taken care of more in the dyed jute that can normally lose color at the wash not being able to undergo intensive fixing treatment as in the case of yarns, which is why it is good practice to always wash objects in jute on their own.

Jute has to be washed in cold water, or at most slightly warm in which it has to me dipped for a little time, 5 minutes max. Too high temperatures could damage the texture, as well as long dippings. To the water you can add a detergent, preferably natural, to be mixed with your hands in such a way that it can take action on all the fabric and in any case it is always advisable to treat it by hand and not in the washing machine.

In case the creation needs it, it's possible to add a few drops of softener.

At the end of the wash, it is good to remember to always rinse with cold water until you have completely removed the detergent.
