Jute: a yarn to open new horizons

Bags, baskets, belts, rugs and home accessories can now have that "NATURAL" touch!

Jute is a natural textile fiber obtained from plants of the Corchorus genus, belonging to the Malvaceae family. As with linen and hemp, the textile material for production is obtained from the plant stem, which can reach 4 meters.

Jute is highly hygroscopic, with a white, yellowish or brown color. The fibers are rough and tough, but Juta Tessiland undergoes a delicate softening treatment that allows for high workability without losing its characteristic appearance. Jute can be worked alone or mixed with other yarns, to create various objects, such as bags, belts, hats or rugs.

Jute comes from the fiber of the lime tree or from the bark of the plant stem, and Tessiland has selected producers that guarantee an eco-sustainable fiber exploitation that does not come from wild deforestation, but from crops embedded in a correct ecosystem. The dyeing to color the raw material is also of very low impact.

The color of Jute without any coloring is the color we call NATURAL.

ATTENTION: Due to the particular nature of the product, the release of impurities during processing and color loss should be considered normal. These characteristics settle after the first washes. It is necessary to keep this detail in mind if very contrasting colors are used together.

How to maintain:

Being a natural material, maintenance is expected (also because its porosity favors the retention of moisture, causing its characteristic odor), to be taken care of more in the dyed jute that can normally lose color when washed, as it cannot undergo intensive fixation treatment like in the case of yarns, which is why it is good practice to always wash jute items alone.

Jute should be washed in cold water, or at most slightly warm, in which it should be immersed for a short time, at most five minutes. Too high a temperature could damage the weave, as well as prolonged immersion. A detergent, preferably natural, can be added to the water and mixed with the hands in such a way that it can act on the entire fabric, and it is always advisable to treat it by hand and not in the washing machine.

If the creation requires it, a few drops of fabric softener can be added.

At the end of the washing, it is important to always rinse with cold water until all the detergent is completely removed.
