Uses and Maintenance:

What can we do with Tessiland's Justin Baby?

Justin Baby is definitely Tessiland's flagship product among merino wool and besides the obvious use for adult clothing, it is perfect for creating accessories and clothing for children! Here's a long list of creations: hats and beanies for kids, scarves, blankets, sweaters, and socks...we'll limit ourselves to the most popular creations, without forgetting the shaded versions that have the same quality but with more defined prints or a soft gradient, which you can find in the complete list of Justin Baby.

So if you're wondering, what yarn to use for babies? Justin Baby is the answer!

Maintenance:

Since it is intended for making clothes for babies and children, and not just for adult clothing that requires a higher quality, Justin Baby is also "total easy care" with a Superwash treatment that allows machine washing. It is always advisable to carry out the first washes by hand and with a small amount of mild neutral soap to allow the work to settle and therefore obtain the best result right away. After these first precautions, it will be a garment that can be washed with ease by following the simple instructions on the label of the skein.

But let's analyze point by point to better understand the new Justin Baby and the great Tessiland research to provide a timeless Classic with quality

100% Extrafine Merinos 19 micron: the finest wool is called "extrafine", which reaches an average fineness of less than 19.5 microns (i.e. 19.5 thousandths of a millimeter) and represents only 15% of the annual production. The best pastures for Merino sheep are found in the Australian plains.

The Justin Baby has an average of 19 micron (the analyses even confirm a fineness of 18.2 micron), and the variation is due to the batches of wool used, the time of the year, and the country of origin of the raw material.

Mulesing Free certification: all Tessiland products are Mulesing free, and thus the care taken in shearing the animals that provide the precious product that must last over time through the creations is crucial. In the case of Justin Baby, it was chosen to have it certified by the appropriate organizations to be able to boast this feature on the labels, which is essential for Tessiland in choosing wool.

Guaranteed weight: Wool is a living fiber, and as such, its weight is influenced by humidity variations. For the new version of Justin Baby, Tessiland has chosen to wind a percentage of the product more than usual, ensuring that it never falls below the tolerance thresholds. This aspect is not at all obvious, as it is common practice to tolerate far more than 3%, thus making it possible to play with prices but providing less material than what is written on the labels.

Superwash treatment: the speed of daily life requires special attention even to the time required for the care of a prestigious handmade garment with a 100% extrafine Merinos like Justin Baby. While maintaining a high level of attention to eco-sustainability aspects of treatments, Justin Baby undergoes a special treatment called "Superwash," which allows it to be washed in the washing machine with delicate cycles found in all modern household washing machines. However, it is always advisable to do the first 2 washes by hand in warm water to allow for the typical work of handmade creations to settle. The irreversibility of the fiber becomes a natural consequence given by the treatment and the particular twist.

Coral twist: also known as "pearled twist", this particular spinning technique makes the yarn perfectly adaptable to crochet work. The particular twist that makes it similar to the twist of the best cottons makes it easy to work with the "magic wand" while remaining ideal for knitting work with needles.

Naturally antibacterial: Justin Baby is naturally antibacterial. The reason is a combination of the complex fiber's ability to absorb moisture and an environment unsuitable for bacteria. High fragmentation, broken surface, and lanolin content mean that Merino products do not have an odor even after repeated wear. It is enough to air out wet clothing after active use. Merino wool also has a natural antistatic capacity, UV radiation absorption, or greater resistance to dirt.

100% Made in Italy: it is not of secondary importance that the best wool in the world is processed with the comfort of the prestigious and ancient Italian quality. All processing stages are carried out entirely in Italy under the control of Tessiland® technicians.

Other features:

Merino wool is considered the best among the many types of wool, for its fineness and length of fiber. An important parameter of Merino sheep wool is the curl: it has about twelve curls per centimeter, unlike other wools that have only one or two. The curling of the fibers acts as a thermal insulator, as it traps more air and therefore retains heat better, protecting against both cold and intense heat. All these qualities have contributed to making Merino wool particularly well-known, and for this reason, it is identified as the highest quality product on the market.

  • It's odor neutral: it has antibacterial properties and doesn't release bad odors when sweating. Moreover, it reduces sweating on the skin as moisture is absorbed directly into the fibers. The bacteria responsible for bad odors are annihilated thanks to the keratin present in the fibers, which allows us to not wash woolen garments so often.
  • It regulates humidity: the fibers are hydrophilic, as they can store up to 35% of their specific weight in moisture. In this way, Merino wool, unlike synthetic fibers, remains warm and comfortable even when wet. Even if the wool gets wet due to sweating, it continues to keep us warm because the proteins contained in the fibers heat up as soon as they get wet.
  • It's breathable: the fibers absorb the water vapor through the skin and release it again when the humidity level decreases. Moreover, Merino wool dries quickly, thus keeping us cool even on hot summer days.
  • It's thermoregulating: the wool fibers cool in summer and warm in winter. In fact, its curly fibers compress body heat, promoting optimal thermal insulation. Merino sheep can survive during scorching summers precisely because of this insulating layer.
  • It's soft: the fibers are 18-19 microns (one micron = one thousandth of a millimeter), much thinner than others, do not irritate the skin, and are very soft when in contact with the skin.
  • It's practical: even though Merino wool neutralizes odors, if it gets dirty, a simple washing machine cycle at 30°- 40° will suffice.
  • It's sustainable: it's 100% eco-friendly. In fact, Merino sheep are sheared once or twice a year, and to grow this natural fiber, only water, fresh air, sun, and delicious grass are needed. Shearing is purely manual and completely painless for the animal. Moreover, Merino wool is biodegradable and does not use any chemical additives.
  • It offers UV protection: it absorbs some of the UV rays, thus keeping them away from the skin.
  • It lasts longer: Merino wool fabrics are particularly resistant, in fact, a fiber can be folded up to 20,000 times without breaking.
