Unlike conventional fibers, chenille only peeked into the world of fashion at the beginning of the 20th century and saw its most significant splendor in the 1970s when many designers adopted it as the main fiber of their collections. It should not be confused with velvet which has a similar structure but is fundamentally different in that it has a "nap," meaning it has a characteristic on one side that it does not present on the other.
